CHINA: Exploring the Interior, 1903-1904 is a travelling exhibit produced in association with the Chinese Room of the Newport (R.I.) Public Library, and the Maine Humanities Council. The Chinese Room was established by R. Harvey Sargent’s son, the late Clyde B. Sargent, as a non-political, educational center to encourage appreciation of the people and culture of China. Inspired by his father’s adventures in China in 1904, and later in 1917, Clyde Sargent became a China scholar, living and working in China from 1931 to 1946.
